Building the Cathedral

“No other dome from any other church,”
according to the book La Cathedral de Mexico,
“can be compared with that found in Mexico.
The genius lies in its disproportionate proportion.”

Scaffolding is constantly
erected throughout the place,
and workers never finish
hammering at stone
and wedging mortar
into fissures and cracks.

Going to church

A walk around the plaza out front of the Cathedral,
down one of the side streets, and then back for a look inside.

Very early morning, a beggar takes the place she's been assigned (and paid for) outside the Cathedral. Later, she's ordered to block the door partially, making it more difficult for passersby to ignore her plight and pleading.

The edible and empire feast

EC in the end

The latticework cage holding the Cathedral's chorus.
The monstous organ tubes rise above, in front and behind.

Cathdral Floorplan. The main doors opening to the plaza are marked 20.

The paltry central dome is number 3, the main altar beneath.

What EC saw from next to the altar, during the last moments.
